Finance Minister P Chidambaram has
termed shocking that only 42,800 people declaring that they earn more than one
crore rupees. Individual and firms are
in this list.
Delhi alone has more than that figure,
he said adding “But we can’t hide any longer,
because we have information on financial and expenditure of many people.”
He said in an interview to a news
channel, “There is no shame in earning more money. But one should declare and
give tax, I think more people admitting to more income in future.”
On some magazines projecting him as
the next PM, Chidamabaram said, “I am amused by such things...I try to enjoy my
work. I was asked to take charge of home ministry and then finance ministry. I
abide by the party directive.
“But I make it clear that I have a clear
mind on travelling, reading, writing and lecturing…and I think the time has
come to take a decision on it.”
