To doubt a friend is worse than to be ditched by him/her, and one should always remember that no person is useless while he has a friend.

-        How do you feel if your friend hurts your sentiment?

Never ever do anything that would allow your friend to hurt you, because it is chance that makes brothers but hearts that make friends.

-        How to make a friend and then maintain it?       

-        The only way to have friend is to be one. Keep the grip over the slim thread of friendship judiciously so that it can move freely---it may snap if you harden the grip and slip away if it loosens.

         At most you can do for your friend is simply to be his friend, and never injure a friend even in haste, for your friend too has professional rivals who keep on spreading rumours against him/her.

Why only I am the target of the critics? Wonders former Team India captain Sourav Ganguly during one of the IPL matches.

…..If only Ganguly knows that some –ex-cricketers want to make a living out of criticizing popular cricketers, particularly the types of the left-hander, because of their on-field aggressive nature and approach.

Known for his-bare-chested celebration at the Lord’s Test, Ganguly should ignore his critics and focus on his work instead, because distractions may increase inconsistency in his batting.

For example in his attempt to bell the cat, former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar went hammer and tongs against Sachin Tendulkar’s “poor performance” a few years ago.

TV channels too joined Manjrekar’s attack and they coined a word—Endulkar--- just because it sounded lyrical (to them).

The charlatans thought Tendulkar had become a spent force after playing fifteen years then, which is seen as the maximum life span of a cricketer in the game. They also thought that attacking the little master would help them eke out a living.

But Tendulkar did not buckle under the pressure of their criticism, instead the master made Manjrekar and others to eat crow.

And it was possible because Tendulkar maintained his cool and gave a damn to his critics as he came back with a vengeance becoming one of the key members in the World Cup winning team headed by M S Dhoni.

He went on to complete 100 international hundreds, making the critics hurry to scurry for cover as he forced his critics to rewrite Endulkar as Tondulkar.

Tendulkar did not leave his critics there. Recently he said it was not his critics, but he was the master of his destiny and had the right to decide on his retirement.

Ganguly should take a leaf out of Tendulkar’s abhorrence against mean critics, who only want to make a living out of criticizing others, and give a damn to their criticism.

Another factor is that critics write bitterly because there are fans who love to read articles written against those cricketers whom rival fans at the paras (localities) adore.

For example a Dhoni’s fan loves to read negative reports against other cricketers, whom his/her friend idolizes------this will give the rival fans material for conversation and engage in arguments based on articles and what the pretenders say on idiot box, posing as commentators.

 Also by engaging themselves in the media, the critics, mostly former cricketers, get a chance to be in the game long after their retirement.

Dada should also introspect whether he had criticised or judged on performance of any other cricketer during his stint in the commentary box and written critical comments in his columns?

The Wall Collapsed after 16 years?

Who dunnit, emotion or snide remarks down under?

“I never really took it seriously. I joke around saying the wall is breaking, its foundation needed (strengthening following cracks)….may be you (journalist) sitting to make a copy,” Test legend Rahul Dravid, who took the painful decision of retiring from Test cricket, said on February 12, 2012.

Though Dravid said he had never walked on the “Wall”, he disagreed that some cricketers creating fissures in it saying, “It’s absolutely speculative, rumours and no truth in it.”

But is it not a mystery Dravid not uttering Team India Captain M S Dhoni’s name even once while taking questions during his press conference while taking the names of Sachin Tendulkar, Virendra Sehwag, Saurav Ganguly, V V S Laxman, Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh----whom Dravid said he felt absolute privilege to be among them during his 16 years of international cricket.

He also had a word on players like Wasim Akram, Glen Mcgrath, Curtly Ambrose, Shane Warne, Courtney Walsh, Waqar Younus, Shoaib Akhtar and Muralitharan, but not once did he mention Dhoni’s name.

How about Dravid addressing press conference with Captain M S Dhoni around, putting all speculations at rest?

“I have absolutely no regret. I think my play had some incredible high and disappointingly low. But at the end of the day, I gave my best shot of the day.

“Absolutely no regret on criticism, because when you play for India where cricket is passionately followed and supported, you have to take it as a part and parcel of the game. Criticisms will be there and I have managed well and (it was) fine for me, and nothing to say about it.”

………it is important to me to move on as much as I do appreciate my feeling, only reason to play to win for India, contribute to team, and not just to play for the sake of it.

Dravid was fair enough to say that he had kept BCCI informed about his retirement plans, but refrained from elaborating saying it was very personal to tell about when, where and how.

On his decision to retire from Test cricket?

“It’s not Eureka moment for me….the decision was difficult. When you have played for India for 16 years, and five years first class matches before it, it’s tough decision, not easy. I know my life (post-retirement’s) challenges… but knew that it was the right decision, and comfortable on what I have achieved and done, but it is also easy that you have to move on.”

According to Dravid his retirement decision was there for over a year when he started assessing with each series and that had a great moment playing for India and playing for winning for team and not to drag it on any longer.

“I sat down (to) take emotions out, look at them dispassionately and when clear of my intention (of taking retirement)…and all others respected as they told right things all through my career.”

Dravid is the record holder for the highest number of Test catches. But even his safe hands did not work in Australia where his famous “Wall” started cracking before collapsing.

But Dravid said dropping a few catches did not influence his decision to quit.

“There is disappointment of putting down catches, (which is also) frustrating for every cricketer. When I drop a catch it really takes me long thinking over it (disappointment).

On which of his 36 centuries was his best?

It’s hard to pick one innings. There are quite a few with are really come among the best----188 in Kolkata partnering V V S Laxman, 233 in Adelaide and a few knocks in Chennai, Headingly and Rawalpindi. Not one particular innings.

He equated his centuries with sons saying “It is hard to choose among your sons.”

What his future after cricket?

“I will see what is ahead of me. Come June I will decide what is ahead of me. I will take a little time to decide on future. I lived in a cocoon for 16 years. I think it is better I stay away to know the reality. If you are away from play you can look things better…I have a young family, and I enjoy myself with my family.”

Dravid did not hide his disappointment on Team India’s miserable performance in England and Australia saying everyone was disappointed?

“…..I still feel, the team is in a good phase with exciting bunch of talented batsmen waiting in the wings. They have skills to replace me…I am nowhere near of this talented near them.”

Two persons were going to office by a public bus. One friend listed some of his likes to the other;

I want a system where disciplined people are not mocked, hounded or sidelined.

I want an effective law and order where anyone can return home safely from any part of the world.

I would like to prefer a system where crooks are not posted at important places.

I want a system where hard work is rewarded by a smile and a word of appreciation.

I also want a system where a person is not judged by his voice, dress sense or eating habit and style; and judged by one’s dedication, determination, devotion in accomplishing one’s work and then showing sincerity in correcting self, instead.

Replies the second person: Don’t think on such lines, my dear friend, because your thoughts remind me about the famous words---Sam (respect), daam (wealth), dand (punishment) bhed (division) to put a noble thinking person like you in place.

The first one wanted to ask his friend to come clear on those words; but refrained after watching two co-passengers exchanging blows following a fiery argument over who would take the vacant seat in the bus.

Journalist's Illusion

ILLUSIONS of a dreamy Pilot

In his school days, Shankar has always nursed deep within his heart to become a pilot of a civilian plane one day.

Little did he know that he was destined to become a journalist in New Delhi, and would see the skies watching planes.

And his childhood thoughts continue to hit him at the very sight of a plane, even after 31 years of journalism.

Shankar slips into his dream once again along with a dummy co-pilot, dreaming they are having coffee in the cockpit, relaxing when the aircraft is in auto pilot.

……eh Shankar, Airport is approaching, prods his co-pilot. Let us get in touch with the ATC. ‘Commander’ Shankar gradually sinks deep into his sub-consciousness and puts himself in pilot-mode….

Suddenly he hears ATC saying, come in Flight 200;

The Commander (Shankar dreams) responds, specify the runway flight 200.

You are approaching runway 2005, confirm Flight 200.

As the flight is in the runway path, the ATC says it’s 3000 feet, Flight 200.

Shankar pushes a button and the carriageway opens.

ATC says carriage way open, flight 200 is 2000 feet high.

Shankar greets passengers of his flight; good evening we are landing at New Delhi Airport. Please switch off your mobile.

Weather outside is 4 degrees Celsius.

ATC crackles Flight 200

It is 1000 feet

500 feet

400 feet

200 feet

100 feet

Land!

Then Shankar pushes the throttle down and it makes a perfect landing with screeching of tyres and it taxies to the Airport.

Both the pilots write the logs of various metres and they come out of the plane and head straight to the van waiting for them.

The crew reports to the duty officer, head for hotel this time.

Again the flight is taking off to Mumbai at 1300 hours, and Shankar and his co-pilot report at 1130 AM.

They go to the Airlines Office and are taken to the van and they sit in the cockpit one by one they check all the cockpit metres----

Altitude!

Weather!!!

Undercarriage!!!

Meanwhile, the luggage is being loaded. They keep checking weight, the flight is being re-fuelled; weight is okay.

The passengers keep trickling in and are showed their seats by the crew.

It is 1230 hrs

After the last passenger comes in, the knob of shutting the doors are pressed; the door is closed and the ladder is removed.

After the tractor is gone, Commander Shankar informs the ATC for permission to take off this flight 106.

Come in ATC, this is flight 106 come in ATC.

Meanwhile, Shankar talks to passengers; good afternoon, this is your Commander Shankar speaking to you; we will be shortly taking off to Mumbai. The flight duration is two hours please switch off your mobiles and fasten your seat belts.

The commander now taxies to the runway slowly, the flight is taxing to the runway. It waits for another plane to take off.

Then the commander pushes the throttle, it gathers speed and after it has crossed the runway, the undercarriage is closed.

Come in ATC this is Flight 106

ATC Flight 106 you are at the height of 2000 feet…………

Then another flight after 48 hours

· This time to Bangalore

· After that 10 days rest

· The flight is in the night at 1000 hrs

· The pilot and co-pilot report at 2030 hrs

· The tail lights and undercarriage lights of the plane are flickering

Then comes the Editor from behind in the News Room----which was Shankar’s cockpit till a moment ago---and disturbs Shankar’s illusory dream.

Shankar replies coyly, “Sir, doing a story----One dead, two injured in a road accident…”

Huun! acknowledges the editor, not bothering to tell his junior that it’s time you bother about flying high instead of doing ridiculous stories, day in and day out, with a cup of tasteless tea.

“Here is a test to find whether your mission on earth is finished. If you’re alive, it isn’t.”

One wonders what kind of judge from whose court innocent persons are being kidnapped.

Just imagine how the Chinese system functioning without justice to any one, but the ruling class.

It is shame on human dignity.

This shows why democracy is the best system to live in.

Once I said to a politician, “You must be tired of telling lies in your address to the masses.”

And he said, “The joy of telling lies is a deep and lasting one, and I never tire of them.”

A year passed during which the politician turned a scam-master. And when I passed by him again I saw two policemen escorting him to jail.
